The leader of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is often referred to as the President of the Church or the Prophet. He has the authority given to him by God to speak for God to the Church here on the earth. Through revelation and communication with the Father, the Prophet guides and directs the Church. The current prophet is Thomas S. Monson. He was sustained as prophet in February of 2008 following the passing of President Gordon B. Hinckley.
